The bill HR 6508 has been submitted to the Lower House of the US Congress for consideration, in which it is proposed to consider the withdrawal of the United States from NATO.
The author of the sensational document is a Republican congressman from Kentucky, Thomas Massey. The articles of the bill are published on the politician's personal website.
NATO is defined as a relic of the Cold War, in connection with which America is invited to withdraw from the alliance. And use the released resources to protect your own country, not other states.
The congressman stressed that America should not be a guarantee of security for the whole world, especially when rich countries refuse to pay for their own defense.
"Our constitution does not allow constant involvement in foreign affairs, which the founding fathers directly warned us about," the congressman appealed to the "origins".
His bill obliges the US president to officially notify the Alliance of the withdrawal. The bill states that the original goal of the Cold War bloc no longer corresponds to the national interests of the United States.
It is also pointed out that the European members of NATO have sufficient economic and military potential to ensure their own defense. Therefore, American taxpayers' funds should not be spent to finance their protection.
As reported by EADaily, earlier US President Donald Trump urged Europe to be careful. The American leader believes that the migration and energy policies of European countries can ruin them.
