Leaders of more than 20 countries were invited to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, but Russia was not among them. Palestine regrets this, Mohammed Shtayyeh, special envoy of the head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, told RIA Novosti.
"Invitations to the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh were handed out by the Americans: not us, not Egypt. Unfortunately, a number of countries that we would like to see there were not represented. Of course, Russia is one of them," Shtaye said.
He recalled that Palestine has always enjoyed the support of the Russian Federation.
"We have always had good relations with Russia: President Abbas has a special relationship with President (Russian Federation Vladimir) Putin, we have always felt political support at the UN level and in our bilateral relations, Russia has always been a close friend for us," the special envoy concluded.
It should be noted that neither Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor any of the Hamas leaders were among those invited to the summit. Thus, peace in Gaza was concluded without the participation of the main parties to the conflict. The American organizers did not invite representatives of the largest world powers — India and China.
