Since the spring of 2023, the Russian police have made almost 3 thousand decisions on the termination of acquired Russian citizenship due to refusal to register for military service or court decisions on criminal articles. This was stated by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.
"2,875 decisions on the termination of citizenship of the Russian Federation have been made since the beginning of the Federal Law of April 28, 2023 No. 138-FZ "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation" by the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia," she said in the Telegram channel.
According to Volk, the main reasons for the deprivation of Russian citizenship were: their failure to fulfill their obligation to initially register for military service and the entry into force of the court's verdict on bringing them to criminal responsibility for committing a number of crimes.
The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs drew attention to the fact that "the institute of termination of citizenship of the Russian Federation is primarily aimed at improving the effectiveness of countering persons admitted to Russian citizenship, whose activities entail threats to national and public security."
She recalled that in 2025 the list of crimes has been expanded, the commission of which entails the termination of Russian citizenship for persons previously admitted to Russian citizenship.
