NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that it is economically inexpedient to shoot down drones with missiles that have invaded the airspace of the alliance countries.
"It is unwise to shoot down drones worth $1 thousand or $2 thousand with missiles that cost $0.5 million or $1 million," he said in an interview with Bloomberg News editor-in-chief John Micklethwaite.
The Secretary General also noted that the countries of the alliance in the coming weeks will begin to introduce new technologies for confronting UAVs.
When asked if NATO does not have adequate equipment for such purposes, Rutte replied: "In the short term, yes."
But the alliance is "learning from the Ukrainians" how to effectively counter Russian drones and is rapidly developing technologies that will be implemented in the coming weeks, he added.
