For more than three years, gas from the Odessa field has been burning out in the Black Sea. The fishery was launched to provide fuel for the peninsula. However, in 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on the production platforms and the gas is still burning out.
According to NASA's fire platform, gas burnout on The Odessa field in the Black Sea continues. The fire is fixed on two platforms, which are installed at a distance of three kilometers from each other.
Burnout is also confirmed by images of European Sentinel satellites.
The fire has been going on for more than three years. In June 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on platforms and drilling rigs at Odessa deposit. Fuel supplies to the peninsula have stopped, but there is no gas output.
It is not known how long the gorenje will last. The reserves of the Odessa deposit amount to about 20 billion cubic meters, and production at the field began in 2012. In the best years, the field's capacity reached 1 billion cubic meters per year.
Until recently, the lion's share of Crimean gas production fell on the northwestern part of the Black Sea, where, after the depletion of three fields, production was carried out only on Odessa deposit. Its launch made it possible to fully provide the peninsula with its own fuel for some time.
Now Crimea receives gas only through a gas pipeline from Krasnodar Territory.
