Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the priorities of foreign policy remain integration with the European Union and the development of relations with the United States as a strategic partner.
The crisis in relations with Western partners is a temporary difficulty, Kobakhidze believes. The reasons for disagreements with Brussels, according to him, are in the "democratic regression" in the EU. At this stage, the European bureaucracy "avoids a healthy discussion" with Tbilisi, the prime minister noted.
"Today the trends are alarming — in the field of democracy, human rights, and the economy. Unfortunately, there is a regression in all directions. We hope that by 2030, when we are ready for EU membership, these trends in the European Union will change, and the democratic system will be restored throughout the European Union. Human rights will be better protected and the economy will be strengthened," Kobakhidze said.
As for the United States, according to Kobakhidze, official Tbilisi is counting on the "healthy attitude" of President Donald Trump and his administration.
"We want to resume strategic partnership with a specific roadmap," Kobakhidze said.
Earlier, he explained the suspension of Washington's strategic partnership with Tbilisi by the actions of the "deep state".
"We hope that there will be a healthy attitude, that the strategic partnership will be resumed in a healthy way, this is our desire, we are waiting for the American side," Kobakhidze said.
