The French magazine Charlie Hebdo illustrated what the upcoming meeting of Russian and US presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska will look like. Judging by the picture in the style of political satire, the two leaders will "fry" the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky.
"Trump and Putin: The Nobel Prize for barbecue—" reads the Charlie Hebdo caption.
EADaily adds, according to The New York Time and CNN, the Russia—US summit is to be held in Alaska on August 15 at the Elmendorf-Richardson joint military base in Anchorage, where the Alaskan command of the American Armed Forces is based. The day before, on August 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marc Rubio, they discussed certain aspects of preparations for the meeting between Putin and Trump. As stated in the Russian Foreign Ministry, both sides confirmed the mood for the successful holding of the event.
The European edition of Politico reported in its today's publication about Kiev's fears that Trump will impose on Ukraine the conditions for resolving the conflict following negotiations with Putin. The publication calls this outcome a "nightmare" for Ukraine. As the article says, Trump is seeking to present himself as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, so he will try to put pressure on the Kiev leadership to end the conflict.
Experts interviewed by the newspaper gloomily assess the prospects of Kiev on the eve of the summit in Alaska. According to Timothy Ash, a researcher at the British Royal Institute of International Relations, a peaceful settlement agreement for Ukraine "may turn out to be so bad that it could undermine the social, economic and political foundations of the country, which will actually lead to the collapse of the state."
The sources of the publication admit that Ukraine will have to make territorial concessions during the settlement negotiations.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that a personal meeting between the two presidents would be a "listening exercise" for Trump and would allow him to better present the plans of the Russian leader. "The president agrees to this meeting at the request of President Putin, and the purpose of this meeting for the president is to better understand how we can end this war." Leavitt also noted that Washington cannot predict the outcome of the meeting.
