The Russian-Ukrainian negotiations will not be able to give a political result, a breakthrough for a long time, said political analyst Alexander Nosovich following the results of the third round of talks in Istanbul.
"The conflict potential around Ukraine has been growing for decades, and even if there is the political will of all parties to end the matter with an agreement (and not all parties have it), this tangle will have to be unwound for a very long time. Therefore, the ceiling that is achievable now is humanitarian actions, technical issues and the absence of insults and demarches that will put an end to the process at the very start," the expert believes.
Such negotiations, according to Nosovich, can also be effective in terms of the ultimate goal.
"Just don't wait for an instant PR result, like Donald Trump. Let the humanitarian exchanges, let the short—term cease-fires for the removal of the bodies of the wounded and killed - a steady consistent process will eventually translate quantity into quality. There should be a cumulative effect that will one day give a result," the political scientist predicts.
