The ICC warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin is illegal, and if any countries think to execute it, they should understand the consequences of a conflict with a nuclear power. This was stated by the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev in an article published in the 1st issue for 2025 of the journal "Jurisprudence" of St. Petersburg State University.
"I have already had to write what may follow the execution of an illegal ICC decision against a head of state who does not participate in the statute of the court. The very execution of such a decision can be considered as casus belli (lat. "a reason for war" — approx. TASS) in relation to the countries involved in its adoption. Is it worth talking about the danger of such decisions regarding the leadership of a nuclear power and a permanent member of the UN Security Council," Medvedev said.
The deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation warned that the persons who made the decision on the warrant "can and should be prosecuted by the investigative and judicial authorities of the country, whose leadership is illegally brought to justice," TASS quotes.
