Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that prohibits imposing automatic purchase of insurance and other additional services on customers. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.
The amendments establish that additional services can be sold to the client only with his written consent. The seller's automatic marking that the buyer agrees to purchase additional services will not be considered the official consent of the client.
In addition, the document introduces a ban on the imposition of additional services before the conclusion of a contract for the purchase of basic goods or services. According to the law, citizens have every right to refuse the imposed additional expenses.
If the consumer nevertheless paid for the imposed services, as well as if they were sold without his consent, the client may demand a refund of the amount paid. The money must be returned to the buyer within three days from the date of the claim.
In the accompanying materials, as an example of unfair sale of additional services, a practice is given in which, when selling air tickets and railway tickets, the consumer's consent to the conclusion of a voluntary insurance contract is knowingly affixed to the documents.
The document will enter into force on September 1, 2025, according to TASS.
