One of the main obstacles to a peaceful settlement between Ukraine and Russia is the loss of trust between the two sides. This was stated on the air of one of the Turkish TV channels by the adviser to the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on foreign policy, Akif Chagatai Kilic, The Guardian reports.
"The main problem is the loss of trust. No one trusts anyone," Kilic said.
At the same time, he referred to a group of politicians who are no longer in power, who, according to him, disrupted the initial negotiations in February 2022 in Istanbul, noting that the conditions under which Ukraine can now negotiate have changed.
"Kilych said that in 2022 the negotiations were aimed at limiting Ukraine's territorial losses to Russia at about 3%, but now this figure is about 25%," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that Turkey has played a key role as a mediator in the negotiations and maintains good relations both with Kiev and with Moscow, despite the military support of Ukraine. In 2022, she held talks and offered to do it again if necessary.
