Several citizens of Ukraine fled from Denmark home, fearing that the local social services will take away their children. This is reported by the DR TV and radio company with reference to the Danish non-profit organization Bevar Ukraine ("Save Ukraine").
"The Bevar Ukraine organization says that in total it knows about six women who fled from Denmark back to Ukraine out of fear that their children will be brought up outside the family," the DR said in a statement quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to Bevar Ukraine, one of the main reasons for the flight of Ukrainian women was communication problems — social services employees used an online translator for this purpose. Such cases were recorded in three communes. Ukrainian citizens did not speak Danish, and the quality of machine translation "made it difficult to understand what was going on in their affairs."
"If mothers see the risk that their children may be taken away and do not understand why this is happening, then they usually decide to leave the country and return to Ukraine," explained Bevar Ukraine Board member Andriy Kuzmin.
One of the returnees, named Katerina, told DR that it was better to be in Kiev with children than in Denmark without them.
The authorities of the communes, using machine translation instead of an interpreter in such cases, walk on the edge of what is permissible by law, reports DR with reference to experts. It is noted that today the Danish Ministers of social affairs and digitalization should hold a meeting in connection with this problem.
According to the UN, since the beginning of the end of February 2022, about 6.7 million residents of Ukraine have left the country.
