TV presenter and commentator Dmitry Guberniev said that the trip of Russian swimmers in neutral status to the Budapest World Cup — 2024 became possible thanks to the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtyarev.

"Without the intervention of Degtyarev and the Ministry of Sports, the trip of our swimmers to the World Championships would have been completely unrealistic. That's why he heads the OCD. This is about the question of what our federations are doing. Just think about it: because of all sorts of uncles and aunts, dozens of our athletes were left without the Olympics. They were threatened, they were intimidated, although the president clearly said that they should decide for themselves. But the uncles and aunts bet on the wrong horse, and she took them to an unknown destination. And now Degtyarev is fixing all this.

Recall that the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest will be held from December 10 to 15. All swimmers from Russia has already received a neutral status to participate in the upcoming tournament.

And in our sport, in our international federation, we were the first to stop them, and the Russians did not get to the European Championship, did not get to the World Championship. And, thus, they did not get to the Olympic Games.

However, we have seen a lot of neutral athletes. But I have a question: what is neutrality? It is very important for us that this neutrality emphasizes two phrases. The first is that they do not support SMO. And the second is that they have nothing to do with this SMO at all. Two phrases that are very important today.

But no athlete who positions himself as neutral can say that. What, then, is their neutrality? This is a very important and important question that we should ask today in international spheres."

But then Dmitry Svishchev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Sports, reacted to the words of Zenit defender Douglas Santos (a citizen of the Russian Federation in an expedited manner), who stated that he wanted to play for the Brazilian national team.:

"I don't understand the meaning of such decisions, we need to pay more attention to those athletes who receive Russian citizenship. If a football player, having received a Russian passport, then declares that he wants to play for the Brazilian national team, then this is a so-so story. Both Zenit and the Russian Football Union, which, let's say, were applicants for citizenship, should be treated more carefully when applying for citizenship. After all, the idea was for him to strengthen our national team."
