NBC News: The attack on the Kursk region has been preparing for more than a year

The Ukrainian command has been discussing an operation for more than a year, such as an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk region. This was reported by NBC News with reference to a high-ranking Kiev official.

"The idea of an operation similar to... the recent strike near Kursk has been discussed for more than a year," the channel's interlocutor said.

According to him, in this way the Kiev leadership tried to distract Moscow from other areas where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering a serious defeat, and the Russian forces are moving forward.

On the morning of August 6, Ukrainian units launched an offensive to seize territory in the Kursk region, their advance was stopped, said Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian General Staff. He stressed that the operation in the region will be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border. As the Ministry of Defense reported on August 16, during the fighting in the Kursk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 2,860 military and 41 tanks.
