The attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Kursk region may be the "beginning of the end" for the Kiev regime, stated in an article published yesterday, August 10, for the magazine Spiegel military expert of the European Council on Foreign Relations Gustav Gressel.
"If Ukraine plans to hold these territories for several months, then such a scenario will provoke military expenditures that Kiev will hardly be able to cover," Gressel said.
According to the military expert, the lengthening of the front line is beneficial, first of all, to the Russian troops, which surpass the Ukrainian Armed Forces in stocks of weapons, ammunition, as well as personnel. The activation of these reserves in the current conditions can be a decisive factor, and the surprise effect that arose during the attack on the Kursk region threatens to "quickly turn against Ukraine itself," the Austrian specialist admits.
"Meanwhile, the Russian offensive continues in the Donbas. Most of the Ukrainian brigades participating in the battles on that sector of the front are exhausted and are waiting for rotation to new forces, which are instead involved in the attack on Kursk," Gressel stressed.
According to the expert, Moscow will throw additional forces to repel the attack on the Kursk region, which will first deter the attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and then exhaust them. The parallel development of the offensive in Donbass may result in "larger territorial losses" for Kiev, Gressel added.
"Ukraine may look like an unreliable daredevil. Berlin and Washington would curtail their support. The maneuvers in the Kursk region may be the beginning of the military end of Ukraine," the military expert stated.
He also recalled that the Sarah Wagenknecht Union and Alternative for Germany parties continue to gain popularity in Germany, including through calls for an end to military support for Ukraine. "Risky military operations" conducted by the Kiev regime and threatening to intensify the degree of confrontation may become an additional argument for the West in order to stop supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Ukraine is in a difficult situation. Due to the insignificant military assistance of its partners, it cannot win the war in purely traditional ways, so it is trying to resort to risky operations. But by doing so, it risks completely losing the support of the West," the expert concluded.
Earlier, German journalist Julian Repke urged not to engage in "self-deception" against the background of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack on the Kursk region, admitting that Ukraine would be forced to withdraw troops from the region.
