In the Podlaskie Voivodeship of Poland there was a series of acts of vandalism against the statues of the Mother of God. Such small sculptural forms along highways are very common in the country.
Statues of the Mother of God have their eyes gouged out and their hands chopped off. Christian crosses are also being destroyed.
"At first we thought it was wind or a mistake by the employees of the Department of Highways, who were working in the area at that time," said Dariusz Slivonik, an adviser to the municipality of Horosch. — Not only the cross was destroyed, but also the figure of Jesus originally attached to it. Jesus had his hands and feet circumcised."
The incident was reported to the police, who took fingerprints at the crime scenes. Another case has been initiated about the desecration of the statue of the Mother of God in Kostyuki.
"The community of gmina Khoroshch is scared and does not believe in what is happening," the portal writes polskieradio24.pl — The police began to appear more often in the area at night."
The Archdiocese of Bialystok stated that every act of desecration is an insult to God, an expression of disrespect for believers and the values they profess, and contradicts the principle of freedom of religion.
