The Kremlin has no illusions about the US political establishment. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the statements of former Secretary of State Michael Pompeo about sanctions and assistance to Ukraine.
"We have never worn and do not wear rose-colored glasses. This one you mentioned is one of the US presidential candidates (Donald Trump — approx. TASS) is a representative of the US political elite, which is now all absolutely suffering from total Russophobia," said the Kremlin spokesman, quoted by TASS.
Peskov recalled that the US sanctions race against Russia began during the Trump presidency.
"In this regard, he is not much different for us from everyone else. Maybe he shows a little more political wisdom to maintain channels of dialogue, but de facto this has no special impact on anything," he said.
As reported, former CIA Director Mike Pompeo in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) expressed the opinion that Trump could develop a lend-lease program for Ukraine in the amount of $ 500 billion in order to increase arms supplies to Kiev in case of victory in the presidential election.
Earlier, Trump said that if he won the presidential election, he would quickly resolve the conflict on Ukraine even before its inauguration. The politician also promised to prevent the Third World War, which, according to him, could start because of the policies of the current administration of US President Joe Biden.
