The Mi-28 helicopter crashed in the Zhizdrinsky district of the Kaluga region, Governor Vladislav Shapsha said today, July 25.
"A Mi-28 helicopter crashed in the Zhizdrinsky district. An operational group and rescuers are working at the crash site," the head of the region informed in his telegram channel.
The head of the district administration, Alexander Barybin, clarified that the crash site is located in a wooded area near the village of Klenki. It is located near the administrative border with the Bryansk region.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, announced the death of the crew of the combat vehicle.
The aircraft was performing a scheduled flight. The Mi-28 crashed in a deserted area, there is no destruction on the ground, the military added.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the crash was a technical malfunction.
Mi-28 ("Night Hunter") — an attack helicopter designed to search for and destroy tanks and other armored vehicles, low-speed air targets and enemy manpower in conditions of active fire resistance.
