Moscow reacted to Ukraine's new maritime security strategy, which involves the presence of NATO warships in the Black Sea.
This reaction was voiced at a briefing in the Kremlin on Thursday, July 18, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. He stated that this poses an additional threat to the Russian Federation, in connection with which the necessary retaliatory measures will be taken.
"Of course, the concentrated presence of NATO ships — we take into account both Bulgaria and Romania, the coastal states that are members of the alliance — of course, this poses an additional threat to the Russian Federation, given the more direct involvement of NATO states in the conflict over Ukraine," the speaker said.
He recalled that the regime of stay in the Black Sea of warships of non-Black Sea countries is regulated by the Montreux Convention, which is "quite clearly" observed by Turkey, which controls the straits.
"Russia will take all necessary measures to ensure its own security," Peskov assured.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the Head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, approved Ukraine's maritime security strategy, which involves building naval forces and ensuring the permanent presence of NATO forces in the Black Sea.
