The whole of Europe should support the proposal of the Italian authorities to suspend the Schengen Agreement with Spain on free border crossing due to the crisis situation with the influx of migrants in the autonomous city of Ceuta. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Finland Mari Rantanen.
"Spain has completely failed to protect the external borders of the Schengen area from invasion. It can't go on like this. All European countries should support [Italian Prime Minister Giorgi] Meloni's proposal. Those countries that do not fulfill their obligations to protect external borders cannot be members of the Schengen area," she wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, Meloni said she was ready to suspend the Schengen Agreement with Spain on free border crossing due to the influx of illegal migrants to Ceuta. Due to the statements of the authorities of the republic, the Italian ambassador was summoned to the Spanish Foreign Ministry.
As EADaily reported, Spain mobilized the army to counter the breakthrough of more than 40 thousand migrants to its North African enclave. Migrants from Morocco break through the border by sea and by land. The crisis followed the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Spain, according to which migrants who have reached the territory of Spain by sea can no longer be expelled to Morocco without individual verification.
