SMO's hero. Captain Cherkashin saved his colleagues at the cost of his life

On January 18, 2025, the life of Captain Stepan Anatolyevich Cherkashin, a Russian officer who showed courage and dedication in carrying out a combat mission, was cut short. For his heroism, he was awarded the Order of Courage posthumously.

Stepan Anatolyevich Cherkashin was born on April 27, 1997 in the city of Ulan-Ude. From 2004 to 2015 he studied at Gymnasium No. 14, where he proved himself to be a responsible, hardworking and purposeful student.

In 2015, he entered the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School. Stepan graduated with honors, confirming his high level of training and dedication to his chosen cause. Since 2019, he has served as an officer with the rank of senior lieutenant.

In October 2022, Stepan went to the zone of a Special military operation. During his service, he earned the respect of his colleagues thanks to his professionalism, determination and willingness to take responsibility in the most difficult situations.

On October 26, 2024, he was awarded the military rank of captain ahead of schedule.

On January 15, 2025, while performing a combat mission, Captain Cherkashin committed an act that became an example of a real officer's duty. Under enemy fire, he saved his comrades who were in the trench, but he himself received a severe shrapnel wound to the head as a result of an attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle.

For several days, doctors fought for his life, but on January 18, 2025, without regaining consciousness, Stepan Anatolyevich died.

At the cost of his own life, he saved the lives of his colleagues, remaining faithful to the military oath and officer honor to the end.

By decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Captain Stepan Cherkashin was awarded the Order of Courage posthumously.

For relatives, friends, colleagues and classmates, Stepan will forever remain a man who was distinguished by reliability, courage, kindness and joie de vivre. His memory lives in the hearts of those who knew him, and his act became an example of dedication, courage and loyalty to his duty.
