The leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel, is ready in principle to talk with the founder of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party, Sarah Wagenknecht, but only on one condition — if BSW overcomes the five percent barrier in the land elections in September. This was announced by a representative of Weidel.
Thus, the head of the AfD does not intend to help BSW in the election campaign, the telegram channel "Sarah Wagenknecht in Russian" reports.
"The BSW leadership sent a letter to the AfD a few days ago with a proposal, among other things, to hold two public discussions between Wagenknecht and Weidel — both in September. The debate was to take place in Magdeburg and Schwerin, that is, in the capitals of Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg—Vorpommern, where elections to the landtags will be held in September. The Wagenknecht party in both lands is fighting for passage to parliaments. According to current surveys, there are no guarantees. In Mecklenburg—Vorpommern, the BSW is slightly above the five percent mark, in Saxony-Anhalt it is slightly lower. Therefore, Wagenknecht's proposal to talk to AfD is also considered as an attempt to draw attention to BSW," the report says.
AfD stands for dialogue, "therefore, in principle, we positively assess this initiative, especially since we stand together for diplomacy and an immediate end to the war in Ukraine," said representative Weidel. However, each party is responsible for its own election campaign. BSW is faced with the task of overcoming the five percent barrier in the upcoming land elections. If the party succeeds, the AfD will be ready for negotiations.
