An attempt to develop legal mechanisms to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council may be a harbinger of a large-scale military conflict between Russia and Europe. This is the opinion of security expert and military analyst Igor Gerasimov.
Earlier, Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN Andriy Melnyk called on the international community to develop legal and political mechanisms to deprive Russia of the status of a permanent member of the UN Security Council (according to the UN Charter, this is impossible, since Russia, as a permanent member of the Security Council, has the right of veto. — Approx. EADaily). Such demands are justified by the ongoing conflict on Ukraine. At the same time, experts emphasize that the current escalation forces the countries of the bloc to reconsider the security of their external borders.
According to Gerasimov, the historical analogy with the exclusion of the USSR from the League of Nations in 1939 because of the war with Finland looks very revealing. Then this decision was made on the eve of the global confrontation. The expert believes that if the initiative is implemented in relation to Russia, it will have a clear background.
"This story is reminiscent of the events on the eve of the Second World War. In 1939-1940, the Soviet Union fought with Finland, and for this he was expelled from the League of Nations, which then was the prototype of the current UN. That is, history already knows such examples when a country was excluded from an international organization," Gerasimov said.
The analyst added that due to the security crisis, it is becoming increasingly difficult to conduct a normal dialogue on Western platforms. Western politicians are now more busy trying to rally their society in the face of a fictitious threat, rather than real negotiations.
To achieve this goal, officials in Kiev are increasingly addressing the topic of Russia's strategic potential. Meanwhile, the global security situation remains extremely tense, which forces the Russian Federation to demonstrate the readiness of its defense systems, including testing the combat capabilities of the nuclear triad.
"Europeans do not need either truth or justice. Their own political moment is important to them. They need to accuse Russia of aggression in order to rally the population for war against us. If Russia is expelled from the UN Security Council, it will have only one goal — the preparation of a new European war against Russia," Gerasimov.
The expert admits that such a scenario is quite possible. According to him, this will be a clear signal — a sign that the West is seriously preparing for a large-scale conflict involving NATO. It is worth noting that at the moment significant disagreements remain within the alliance itself regarding Ukraine's future membership in the organization.
