Britain turned out to be vulnerable to Iranian ballistic missiles after an attempted attack on the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean. It is reported by The Telegraph, citing sources.
One of the senior representatives of the British Ministry of Defense called the situation for the country "terrible." According to him, the level of readiness to intercept ballistic missiles in the UK is "very low."
According to the publication, the only line of defense is six Type 45 destroyers with Sea Viper systems, which are equipped with Sea Viper anti—aircraft missiles with a range of just over 120 km, each carrying up to 48 missiles. However, a significant part of the fleet is in port and is not ready to immediately repel the strike. There are no ground-based air defense systems to intercept ballistic or hypersonic missiles in the UK. The Fylingdales radar provides early warning, but is not capable of hitting targets. As a result, according to sources, in the event of such attacks, it will depend on NATO allies.
British officials called the attempted strike on the Anglo-American base of Diego Garcia on the Chagos Islands a "warning shot."
As reported by EADaily, Iran for the first time attacked US facilities far beyond the Middle East. This was reported by the British The Guardian.
Iran fired two medium-range ballistic missiles at a joint US-British military base in the Indian Ocean, but none of them hit, the newspaper writes, citing American media.
