Russia is categorically opposed to economic and political pressure on Cuba from the United States and expresses its strong support for the republic. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a telephone conversation with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
"Resolute support was expressed to the fraternal Cuban people in protecting state sovereignty and the right to choose their own path of development," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Lavrov and Bruno Rodriguez discussed the schedule of contacts, including the intergovernmental commission. The release does not report any specific actions to assist Cuba in a desperate situation.
As EADaily reported, having arranged a power blockade of Cuba, the United States allowed the supply of petroleum products to the island to private companies for private needs. However, so far this has not changed the situation in any way, which is only getting worse. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), hospitals are facing frequent power outages and shortages of life-saving medicines.
Almost a million people depend on water delivered by cars, and more than 80% of centralized water supply depends on electricity, and constant outages lead to prolonged lack of water. The availability of basic products in Cuba is declining, as it is impossible to ensure the stable operation of refrigeration equipment and the delivery of products by car.
