Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni appealed to US President Donald Trump with a request to change the format of the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip.
According to the ANSA news agency, the corresponding statement was made by the head of the Italian Cabinet at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after the intergovernmental summit of Italy and Germany in Rome.
Meloni pointed out that Italy is interested in participating in The Council, but at the moment cannot join, because some of its aspects contradict the Constitution of the country.
"I said that we have objective constitutional problems related to the way the initiative is formulated, and also asked if he was ready to revise this wording so that it meets the needs of not only Italy, but also other European countries," the prime minister said.
She also expressed hope that Trump's efforts will help put an end to the war in Syria. Ukraine, adding that in this case its government will support the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the US president.
Earlier, EADaily reported that European leaders decided to boycott the "Peace Council" created by Trump. However, he warned them that he would remember this European sabotage.
