Unknown drones have been spotted over the Arrow-3 missile defense system, designed to protect Europe from Russian ballistic missiles. This is reported by the publication Defense Romania.
"An internal document of the Bundeswehr, recently published, confirms a major security leak at the Annaburg Airbase in Saxony-Anhalt, where three unidentified drones flew over the radar installations of the Arrow-3 system just two days before its official commissioning. This second incident of this kind suggests that the enemy is actively exploring the detection capabilities and preparation points of the latest European defense architecture,"the publication says.
It is noted that this happened on December 1 last year. According to the publication, the UAV flew at an altitude of about one hundred meters.
The Bundeswehr rapid response unit promptly arrived at the scene. The soldiers tried to shoot down the drones with G27P assault rifles, but they failed.
"The German military used G27P assault rifles equipped with the Smash X4 sighting system, an Israeli technology useful for combating drones, but suspicious devices managed to disappear from the range of these guns. The seriousness of these overflights goes beyond a simple security incident, as Arrow-3 represents the advanced technology responsible for the protection of European airspace, acquired through the European Sky Shield (ESSI) initiative," the author writes.
It is claimed that the Arrow 3 missile defense system worth $ 3.5 billion, developed by Israel and the United States, is designed to intercept Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles outside the Earth's atmosphere.
German counterintelligence and The military police qualified the incident as deliberate espionage.
