The statement of the President of Finland Alexander Stubb about the "victory" over the USSR in 1944 was the "stupidity of the year." This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
"Sometimes, stupidity, of course, amazes. Ignorance of the texture, especially when they talk about topics that concern their own countries. So I think that, of course, according to the degree of some kind of inadequacy, it is possible to lead the statements of Finnish politicians who said that they almost won the Soviet Union, or what they did there," she said on Sputnik Radio, answering a question about which statement of Western leaders shocked her the most in the outgoing year.
"When did they defeat whom? They were like a pendulum, and, you know, out of sync between, so to speak, the forces of good and the forces of evil. They could not immediately decide which side of history to take, and took different positions, including a collaborationist attitude towards the Third Reich. And then, not without the efforts of the Soviet Union, they built themselves into the right framework, which provided them with several decades of disgraceful existence in the twentieth century," the diplomat added.
As previously reported, Stubb, commenting on the agreement with the USSR signed in 1944, said in an interview with the Economist that Finland allegedly won the war with the Soviet Union in 1944 because it retained its independence.
