French President Emmanuel Macron threatened China with duties from the EU. This is reported by the European media.
In an interview with Echos, Macron recalled his recent trip to Beijing.
"I said that if they do not respond, then we, the Europeans, will be forced to take tough measures in the coming months and stop cooperation following the example of the United States, for example, to impose duties on Chinese goods," he said.
According to him, he discussed this issue with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. At the same time, Macron stressed that he believes in the possibility of a peaceful settlement of the trade dispute with China. In this regard, he proposed a mutual rejection of "aggressive policies", such as restrictions on the export of semiconductor equipment from outside The EU and restrictions on the export of rare earth metals from the PRC. He also urged Chinese companies to invest in Europe.
