Estonia is ready to show solidarity with Lithuania and close the border with Belarus. This statement by the head of the Lithuanian government Inga Ruginene caused confusion both inside and outside the country.
Lithuanian Seimas deputy Dalia Asanaviciute asked Ruginene to explain where the border between Estonia and Belarus is located.
"You said that Latvia and Estonia promises to close border crossings with Belarus if necessary. Please tell me where the border between Estonia and Belarus is located," she said.
In turn, the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department reported that it had no information about the statement of Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginen regarding the closure of the border between Estonia and Belarus.
"The Estonian border with Belarus? We do not have such a border," the department said.
Lithuania closed the two remaining automobile checkpoints on the border with Belarus at the end of October until December 1. Later, Ruginene said that if Minsk continues to "attack" Lithuania, and the situation fails to normalize, Latvia and Estonia is ready for solidarity and border closure. The Lithuanian Prime Minister herself hastened to justify herself on November 13, noting that she meant not the closure of border crossings, but the solidarity of the Baltic countries with Lithuania.
