The Finnish company for the production of spikes for car tires is cutting employees. New sanctions The EU banned the supply of products to Russia.
"Turvanasta company from Turku, which produces spikes for car tires, has faced problems due to sanctions The EU is against Russia," Yle writes.
According to the publication, in October, the company held negotiations on staff reduction.
"15 employees were dismissed and almost 50 were sent on unpaid leave. These figures are contained in a message sent to employees in mid-October. The impact on the staff turned out to be significant: according to Iltalehti, 150 people worked at the enterprise in September," the Finnish edition reports.
Yle noted that the reductions are due to a sharp decline in the volume of orders after the introduction of a ban on the export of aluminum products to Russia.
"Unlike other major Finnish manufacturers of spikes, Turvanasta continued to supply products to Russia," the publication continues.
As a result, the export of aluminum from Finland to Russia doubled in 2023-2024. A significant part of the growth came from Turvanasta products. The company's turnover increased from 30 million euros in 2022 to 40 million in 2024.
"The statistics of customs did not record a decrease in exports of aluminum products before the latest sanctions. Back in September in Aluminum products worth six million euros were shipped to Russia," Olli—Pekka Penttila, head of the customs statistics department, told the publication.
According to him, in September, aluminum exports were at a high level and turned out to be comparable to the indicators of 2021.
