US President Donald Trump is undermining global supply chains with his demand for other countries to stop buying oil from Russia. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian.
"The approach of the United States is a typical unilateral hegemony and economic coercion that seriously violate international trade and economic rules, threaten the security and stability of global supply chains," he stressed at a briefing, commenting on the pressure of the American leader on India and China over the purchase of Russian oil.
The Chinese diplomat recalled that Beijing had repeatedly stated its position on this issue before.
"China's normal economic, trade and energy cooperation with countries around the world, including Russia, is legitimate and lawful," he explained.
According to Lin Jian, China consistently takes an objective and impartial position on the Ukrainian crisis, under the pretext of which the United States is trying to undermine international oil supplies from the Russian Federation. The Chinese diplomat drew attention to the fact that China pursues a transparent policy.
"We are strongly opposed to the United States referring to China at every opportunity, categorically opposed to indiscriminate and illegal unilateral sanctions, the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the American side in relation to China. In case of infringement of the legitimate rights and interests of the PRC, our country will take decisive countermeasures, will strictly defend its sovereignty, development and security interests," Lin Jian summed up.
EADaily adds: earlier, US President Donald Trump, during a press conference at the White House, announced India's readiness to stop buying Russian oil. "He [Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi] has assured me that he will not buy oil from Russia," Trump said. According to the head of the White House, India will be ready to abandon Russian oil "in a short period of time."
"And then, when the war is over, they will be able to buy it again," he added. Trump also expressed hope that China will follow India's example: "Now we need China to do the same."
