Former head of the presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev has been placed under house arrest for four months in Azerbaijan.
He held this post for 24 years and was honorably dismissed by Ilham Aliyev in 2019. In 2019-2022, he served as President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
Mehdiyev was charged under the articles "actions aimed at seizing state power", "high treason" and "legalization of property obtained by criminal means".
Some media outlets write that he allegedly "headed a pro-Russian group of influential people in Azerbaijan and was preparing the overthrow of Ilham Aliyev."
