The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, will leave on Monday for Washington, to find out why US President Donald Trump abandoned the idea of a ceasefire agreed earlier with Ukraine and Europe before the start of peace talks with Russia. It is reported by The New York Times, citing an unnamed official.
"The official briefed on the phone conversation between Trump and Zelensky said that the Ukrainian leader's trip to Washington would be aimed at getting clarity from Trump. Kiev does not understand why the American president suddenly refused the requirement that a ceasefire precede negotiations," the publication says.
Zelensky, commenting on the conversation with Trump, acted cautiously, trying not to openly contradict the American president, the newspaper notes.
"We need to achieve a real peace that will be long—term, and not just another pause between Russian invasions," Zelensky said, stressing that he still prioritizes the ceasefire.
As for the European leaders, they did not mention in their statements that they had agreed to abandon their demand for a cease-fire, but the fact that it did not sound in the current statements, unlike previous ones, "speaks at least about an attempt not to oppose Trump," the publication emphasizes.
