French President Emmanuel Macron, during a state visit to the UK with his wife Brigitte, twice violated royal protocol during a solemn review of troops at Windsor Castle. It is reported by the British Daily Mail.
Firstly, at the review, Macron allowed himself to go ahead of King Charles III. Secondly, being next to the Grenadier Guard and marching ahead of the monarch, the French president patted the captain of the Guard on the back.
"People should not touch the guards, especially when they are performing a ceremonial service. If they touch the guards, they (the guards) shout: "Hands off the royal Guard!“ In the frame you can see how the captain of the guard quickly turns his head to see who touched him. Fortunately, he decided to bite his tongue about this and continued his walk with the French president," the newspaper notes.
The fact that Macron marched in front of the king during the ceremony caused a wave of criticism on social networks. Some users suggested that Macron's behavior was deliberately dismissive.
"He's doing it on purpose. He is French, he does not believe in the monarchy and he is an absolute narcissist trying to feel like Napoleon for 5 minutes," writes one of the commentators.
"I bet Macron is doing this on purpose," another noted.
"Macron thinks he's the supreme ruler there," added a third.
