The upcoming Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul on May 15, most likely, will not take place in the format of a dialogue of top officials and will take place at the level of plenipotentiary delegations.
This forecast was expressed to RIA Novosti by Turkish political analyst Engin Ozer. At the same time, he stressed that at the Ukraine continues to have a law prohibiting peace talks with Moscow. And the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, has not yet canceled it.
"One of the important obstacles to negotiations, which is often overlooked, is that at the Ukraine has not yet repealed the law prohibiting peace talks with Russia," the analyst said.
In his opinion, Zelensky's invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Istanbul on May 15 should be considered only as a cunning diplomatic maneuver.
Despite this, Ozer is confident that Turkey can play an important role in the negotiations. The serious experience of the Turkish side regarding negotiations and the parties' trust in Ankara are very important factors for this process, the political scientist concluded.
Earlier, Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Hakan Fidan discussed by phone President Vladimir Putin's proposal for talks between Moscow and Kiev in Istanbul on Thursday, May 15.
As reported by EADaily, earlier Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the readiness of the Turkish authorities to organize direct talks between Russia and Ukraine.
