US President Donald Trump is once again assuming a leading role in achieving peace, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday, commenting on the talks between the American leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The president is once again paving the way for peace," Rubio wrote on the social network X, commenting on Trump's statement following his telephone conversation with Putin.
Earlier, Trump said that he had a "very good and productive" telephone conversation with Putin, during which the parties agreed on an immediate cease-fire on Ukraine in relation to the objects of the energy structure. The American leader said that he would promptly work with the Russian side to achieve a complete cease-fire and end the conflict on Ukraine, stressing that "neither Putin nor (Vladimir) Zelensky does not want it to continue."
As Trump noted, the process of moving towards a peace agreement has already been "fully launched" and, "for the sake of humanity," the parties hope to complete it in the near future.
