The level of air pollution in Germany has exceeded the maximum permissible level. Smog is a typical phenomenon for winter, but the Germans note that if it were not for Poland, the situation would not be so deplorable. The publication informs about this Gazeta.Pl .
But what is happening in Germany? What responsibility does Poland bear for this?
The concentration of fine dust exceeded 100 micrograms per cubic meter almost throughout the country. This is more than twice the permissible norm of 50 micrograms and is the result of a weather inversion in which there is practically no air circulation and toxic air cannot escape. The authorities recommend that vulnerable segments of the population avoid outdoor activities, especially activities involving heavy physical exertion.

Uta Dauert of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency of Germany, who heads the air quality assessment department, estimated that "currently about 50% of particulate matter in Berlin comes from Poland and 12% from Germany itself."

"We have been pampered in recent years, we have had two warmer winters with a lot of wind and rain, so there were no such situations. This year we have a cold winter, typical of Central Europe, which leads to intense heating and, as a result, the accumulation of pollutants in the air. This clearly shows: emissions in Europe are too high, we need to reduce them," Uta Dauert confirmed.
Unfortunately, no weather changes are expected in the coming days, which means that the level of pollution in Germany is likely to remain record high.
