A mysterious balloon with Cyrillic inscriptions was found by foresters near the Polish town of Prostki. The object found near the borders with Belarus, Lithuania and Russia may be a weather balloon.
Polish police spokeswoman Agata Kulikowska told Polish Radio:
"We have recorded all the traces that indicate that this is a weather balloon, which measures the air temperature. Further actions are ongoing."
The Polish edition of Onet adds that in recent months balloons with Cyrillic inscriptions have been found several times in Poland. The police believe that the weather balloons are used by Belarusian smugglers for the illegal delivery of cigarettes. Now the police are investigating whether the found balloon is connected with cross-border crime or was used for scientific purposes.
