Former Armenian Defense Minister Major General Arshak Karapetyan has been detained in Moscow.
As a source close to the Ministry of Internal Affairs told RBC, Karapetyan was detained for Tverskaya street in the afternoon of December 30.
Karapetyan has been put on the wanted list in Armenia under the articles "Illegal participation in entrepreneurial activity", "Abuse of official authority" and "Abuse of power".
Karapetyan held the post of Minister of Defense of Armenia for several months in 2021. He is 57 years old. From 2018 to 2021, he was an adviser to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In April-July 2021, he served as the first Deputy chief of the General Staff of Armenia, then became the first Deputy Minister of Defense for two weeks, and on August 2 he was appointed Minister of Defense. Karapetyan was fired three months later, and on November 15, Suren Papikyan received the post of minister.
