France does not object to the invitation of Ukraine to NATO, however, it can be discussed about its accession to the alliance only after the end of the armed conflict with Russia.
This statement was made by the Minister-delegate for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, Benjamin Haddad, during his speech on the LCI TV channel.
"France supports Ukraine's desire to join NATO and, probably, the opportunity to send it this invitation. But its entry will take place only after the war, otherwise we will be drawn into the conflict," the minister said.
He noted that the main issue is the best way to ensure stability, deterrence and peace in this region in the long term.
In this regard, the Fifth Republic adheres to the position that first, at a minimum, it is necessary to designate reliable and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine in the medium term.
Haddad added that Western countries should also politically support Kiev on its way to the European Union. It will take time, but this step is necessary to ensure "stability and security on the continent."
Earlier, EADaily reported that seven NATO member countries opposed Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Alliance. This is reported by Politico with reference to US officials and diplomats in the organization.
