A new variant of coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Russia — Rospotrebnadzor

A new variant of coronavirus is rapidly spreading on the territory of the Russian Federation, the press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported.

It is noted that the specialists of the department are constantly carrying out operational monitoring of the incidence of a new variant of coronavirus infection called Covid-19 — XEC.

This variant is seasonal and is a recombination of subvariants of the FLiRT — KS Omicron.1.1 and KP.3.3. The symptoms of the new infection as a whole do not differ from the old manifestations of Covid-19. They manifest as fever, sore throat, cough, loss of sense of smell and appetite, body aches, fatigue, headache and runny nose.

XEC was first detected in Germany in June 2024, and has since been detected in several countries. The earliest cases of this variant were reported in Italy in May.

Rospotrebnadzor recommends that in order to protect during the rise in morbidity, preventive measures should be observed — use personal protective equipment, wash hands with soap, avoid contact with sick people, ventilate the premises.

It is recommended to stay at home and consult a doctor if you feel unwell, especially for older people and those with chronic diseases.

As reported by EADaily, earlier the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that mass vaccination against coronavirus in Russia is not planned for today, but if necessary, the attending physician can prescribe this procedure.
