In the UK, a patient who wanted to be disconnected from life support systems after an established brain death regained consciousness. This is reported by the My London portal.
32-year-old Emma Price tried to commit suicide because of bullying at work.
"We were planning her funeral and were preparing to say goodbye to her on Monday, but then she opened her eyes and we all started crying again, but this time it was tears of joy," said the 56-year-old mother of a wonderful patient.
According to doctors, the brain damage that the patient received was quite significant. A few hours before she was supposed to be disconnected from the life support system, she was able to breathe without a ventilator for more than 30 minutes. She has opened her eyes and can now communicate using head movements and limited facial expressions.
How far the victim will be able to recover is unknown, doctors do not give any predictions, the family is optimistic.
