On May 22 morning, Ukraine’s Security Service summoned former Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Chebotar for interrogation but Chebotar fled to Austria, according to MP Mustafa Nayyem (Petro Poroshenko Bloc).
In his Twitter, Nayyem says that the summons was given to Chebotar at the airport at 6:30 AM. Chebotar is to appear in the Prosecutor General’s Office next Monday. But he departed to Vienna.
MP Serhiy Kaplin has confirmed Nayyem’s words. While speaking in the Supreme Rada later in the day, he said, “I would like to inform you than Chebotar fled to Vienna today morning after being summoned for interrogation. I urge all people and policemen in Ukraine and worldwide to find and bring him back,” Kaplin said.
Earlier EADaily reported that while being Avakov’s deputy, Chebotar resigned because of a corruption scandal and an attack on journalists. Despite resignation, Chebotar continued being Avakov’s advisor.
As 112.ua has learned from Interpol, Chebotar fled from Ukraine before his resignation but was regularly reported to be seen in the country. Now we can only guess what this scandal will end in. At first, it was very promising but since Chebotar is a relative of National Security Service Chief Oleksandr Turchynov, it will end in nothing.
