Rubio is becoming too popular, if this goes on, I will fire him. Such a statement was made by US President Donald Trump at a rally in Salina, Kansas, as part of the election campaign, LaPresse News reports.

"He's getting too popular. I don't like it... if he becomes even more popular, I'll say, 'You're fired,'" Trump said.

He used his famous phrase "You're fired" from the TV show "The Apprentice". After that, Rubio went up on stage, they both laughed and shook hands.

Trump called him a "wonderful guy" and suggested that Rubio might go down in history as the "best secretary of state" of the United States.

In 2026, Rubio's ratings in several key polls have indeed shown significant growth. At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in March 2026, support for him as a potential presidential candidate in 2028 soared from 3% last year to 35% this year.

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted in March 2026, 47% of likely voters had a positive opinion of Rubio, which is higher than a year ago (45%), while 25% said they viewed him "very favorably." In one of the hypothetical polls on the nomination of candidates, Rubio even beat Vice President Vance with a score of 45.4% versus 29.6%.
