Moscow has sent a note of protest to Yerevan in connection with the desecration of the memorial to the Heroes of the Great Patriotic War in Gyumri. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"This blasphemous action is not just hooliganism, but a targeted attack on the historical memory common to our countries and an attempt to abuse the Great Victory. Of course, we sent a note of protest to the Armenian side," the diplomat said.
According to Zakharova, the servicemen of the 102nd Russian military base stationed in this city immediately joined the restoration of the memorial. A corresponding assessment of the incident was also given by the Russian Embassy in Yerevan.
"We have seen the message of the Armenian competent authorities about the detention of the alleged culprit, this is fine. And we hope that justice will prevail, and illegal actions that have caused acute rejection by the public of our two countries will entail due punishment," she stressed.
At the same time, according to Zakharova, "it is puzzling that the official authorities of Armenia, instead of strongly condemning the desecration of the monument or at least expressing some clear position, literally decided to remain silent."
"Unfortunately, this is already becoming a bad tradition. As you remember, no one in Yerevan reacted to Zelensky's statements made on Armenian soil, threatening to strike at the Victory Parade in Moscow, which takes place on Red Square, where great figures who saved the world from the brown plague, who are inextricably linked to the history of Armenia and the Armenian people, are buried, among others," she drew attention The diplomat.
"It is obvious that such connivance and the unbridled anti—Russian campaign that accompanied the parliamentary elections in the republic literally created the soil, fertilized it for such barbaric antics," stated the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, quoted by TASS.
