The June Russia—ASEAN summit will indicate what the world will be like next, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"It [the Russia—ASEAN summit] will just give an answer as to what the world will be like next, which way to go," the diplomat said in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) when asked what answer the upcoming summit will give to the world.

According to Zakharova, "this path is connected with multipolarity, with polycentricity."

"The ASEAN countries were among the first to demonstrate a fantastic format of cooperation based on taking into account each other's interests and combining benefits both for their own countries and for the entire region as a whole," she said.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that many of these states, "having been colonies of other countries, the so-called metropolises, for decades, have demonstrated a fantastic level of development, not only economic, but also civilizational, moral, moral, philosophical." According to her, this means "the perception of this world is not through the prism of "who is stronger is right," the more you have destroyed, the more you can take credit for yourself."

"And they saw in this world opportunities for creation, for real development, for solving those challenges that previously, a couple of centuries ago, seemed generally insoluble," the diplomat stressed.

She said that the ASEAN countries gave "a worthy response, but not a momentary, not a one-day response, but one that has been building up for years, decades."

"And honor them and praise them, and God grant that the fantastic experience that ASEAN and the countries of the region have will continue to exist and give practical results, as it did," Zakharova wished.

According to her, the experience of the ASEAN countries could become an example "for many other parts of the world, for the same Western Europe."

"Probably, at some point they will wake up and realize that there is an example of real cooperation and integration," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry suggested. "Not through a stick, not through a block consciousness, not through the principle of "who are we friends against, girls", but for real, when countries of different formats, different scales, with different levels of development can talk to each other. Even despite the presence of conflict potential, historical contradictions, wounds that have not yet healed, but at the same time it is possible to conduct a mutually respectful dialogue," Zakharova listed.
