The US ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, said that Serbia's future should be connected with the West. He announced this on the social network X after a meeting with the president of this country Alexander Vucic.
Whitaker called the meeting constructive, noting that it launched a new era in relations between the United States and the Balkan state. He warned Vucic against ties with "unreliable partners," meaning, presumably, including Russia.
"A constructive meeting with President Vucic to launch a new era in relations between the United States and Serbia. We appreciate Serbia's role in regional stability and look forward to the joint exercises of Serbia and NATO in May. But I He made it clear that Serbia's cooperation in the field of defense and security with unreliable partners creates long-term strategic dependencies that are difficult to get rid of and complicates future cooperation. For a modern, future-oriented partnership, Serbia's strategic future must be linked to the West. Security depends on choosing the right partners," Whitaker said, quoted by the Donald Trump telegram channel in Russian.
As EADaily reported today, Belgrade is grateful to the leadership of Russia and personally to its President Vladimir Putin for consistent support of the territorial integrity of Serbia. This was stated by the Minister of the Government of Serbia, responsible for international economic cooperation, Nenad Popovic following a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko.
