Pakistan has officially opened the Iran-Pakistan transport corridor. The first batch of frozen meat was sent to Tashkent on refrigerated trucks, TasnimNews reports today, April 13.
The corridor was launched in accordance with the TIR (Transports Internationaux Routes) system, the main border points, including Taftan, Rimdan, Soust and Gwadar, are involved in transit. The opening of the corridor is considered as an important event, as it will support Pakistan's exports and improve regional ties, as well as reduce dependence on sea routes, reducing transit time, logistics costs.
In accordance with the new agreement, cargoes from Pakistanis can move through Iranian territory after passing through the checkpoint in Gwadar.
Amid peace talks between Iran and By the United States, local observers have renewed expectations that Pakistan and Iran may reconsider its plans for gas and oil pipelines. In 2013, then Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari launched the construction of the gas pipeline. Iran has completed work on its side, but Pakistan has not yet started construction, citing US sanctions against Tehran and "weak domestic demand."
