Araqchi called Lavrov after supporting Iran's position in the UN Security Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araqchi held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on April 9, the Russian service of the State Television and Radio of Iran reports.

"The Iranian Foreign Minister, thanking Russia for the responsible decision to oppose the illogical and unilateral resolution proposed by the United States in The UN Security Council, regarding regional developments, assessed this step as effective in preventing the escalation of tension," the statement said.

Araqchi also pointed to "Iran's responsible position in accepting the ceasefire" and stressed "the responsibility of the United States to fulfill its obligations to stop the war in all regions, including Lebanon."

The Iranian Foreign Minister, speaking about the situation in In the Strait of Hormuz, he said that safe passage would be possible "in accordance with instructions and in coordination with the Iranian armed forces through certain routes and in compliance with existing technical measures, provided that the American side complies with its obligations."

"The Russian Foreign Minister, welcoming the cessation of military aggression against Iran, stressed his country's support for efforts to end the war and return sustainable stability and security throughout the region. Lavrov also noted the joint cooperation of Iran and Russia in the framework of UNESCO to condemn the military attacks of the United States and Israel on historical and religious sites, including the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas in Tehran," the Iranian media reports.
